Ryon Technologies, Inc. is developing instrumentation for characterizing the structures of molecules observed in mass spectroscopy. The ability to distinguish between molecules of similar or identical molecular weight is important in various applications including determining whether a given sample is an explosive compound or a benign analog. The technology can also be used to characterize exact compositions of hard-to-distinguish mixtures of hydrocarbons or natural products. In large molecules, characterization of the molecular shape might provide a way of determining whether a given protein is properly folded. The underlying technology for the instrumentation is Rydberg Spectroscopy and was developed by Dr. Weber at Brown University
