Founded by a Nobel Prize winning chemist, Q-Chem, Inc. develops and distributes advanced quantum chemistry software for industrial, government and academic researchers in the chemical, biological, pharmaceutical and materials sciences, among others. The firm's primary focus is to extend the reach of quantum chemistry methods to physical, chemical and biological problems that were previously beyond the scope of rigorous quantum studies through improving the existing algorithms and developing new methods that do not hinder accuracy. Q-Chem uses an open-teamware model to develop such quantum chemistry solutions. The source code is open to a large group of developers (currently more than 100 individuals in 9 countries). It welcomes new contributions and recognizes them through credits on its website and inclusion on the author list of Q-Chem papers. Also, as part of the IBM World Community Grid, about 350,000 Q-Chem calculations are performed every day by the Harvard Clean Energy Project , which is powered by Q-Chem, free of charge.
