ProtonVDA is focused on transforming the practice of proton therapy with instruments that enable facilities to efficiently and confidently deliver optimal treatments fully realizing the promise of the Bragg peak, the sharp peak in dose deposition that occurs at the end of a protons trajectory. The Bragg peak enables protons to precisely target tumors for radiation therapy, with reduced dose to healthy tissue compared to conventional radiation therapy. The firm's system is based on using protons to image the patient before treatment. The detectors produce an image from position and energy measurements of protons with enough energy to traverse the patient. The subsequent treatment uses a lower energy beam which stops in the tumor. The use of the proton beam for both imaging and treatment streamlines patient setup and quality assurance procedures, and also reduces alignment and proton range uncertainties. Other components of our system verify the 3D dose distribution before treatment, and monitor the dose profile during treatment. With these instruments together, this system allows for more complex and optimal treatments while streamlining procedures and improving patient flow.
