Photon Biosciences LLC, spun out of Washington State University, develops an ultrasensitive detection platform that combines bioengineered proteins with a in vivo biomineralization process, resulting in a number of different genetically expressible luminescent bionanoparticles that are non-bleaching and non-blinking with luminescence intensities that rivals and surpasses many fluorescent organic molecules. The company calls its primary technology RECAL and it has applications in biomolecular research, detection technologies, and cellular imaging.
