Palmos is an environmental monitoring company that develops an IoT based solution for landslide and flooding risk analysis. The firm grew out of a Smart Cities Design Challenge win by three graduate engineers at Columbia University with an early-stage prototype of the firm's low-power sensor design, Palmos then won seed funding to develop a first-generation product. The organizing principle of the firm is one that seeks to provide national governments and international aid organizations with on-demand access to environmental data insights - in other words, notification before a disaster occurs so vulnerable communities can be better protected. The firm has developed a context-specific single-hop, low-power, high density wireless sensor networks to detect critical hydrological and other environmental signals for predictive risk modeling.
