A rather different type of SBIR Awardee from the norm, New Mexico Start-Up Factory describe themselves as in the business of commercializing Technologies & Creating Investable Companies to the bringing laboratory technologies to market. The organization's business model involves their working with scientists looking to commercialize their technologies. Technologists are coached through validation of the technology and market, and are then paired with the right management team. A commercialization and business plan/model is formed and if indications are of a sound market and promising technological development, a company is formed. Companies and scientists who successfully complete the educational piece of the program are then open to investment from the Start-Up Factory Fund
