Public Profile

Neuroanalytics Corporation is working on pain research through the development of new and better equipment and technologies. The firm has developed TIROS (Thermally-Induced Response Observation System). TIROS is a system designed to measure thermal pain sensitivity in rodents (rats and mice). A thermal stimulas is used to induce pain in the paws. The pain experienced itself cannot be measured. The magnitude of the pain is inferred from a behavioral response to the stimulas. TIROS measures the delay the animals escape from the painfully hot or cold floor i. e. the escape latency. Longer escape latencies from a stimulas of a defined temperature indicate reduced pain sensitivity. Changes in pain sensitivity may be indicators of drug - or disease effects.
