Sometime during early 2014 the firm closed operation citing success of software but inadequate revenue fromm sales to sustain operations. Described as 'a green IT software company' MiserWare Inc -- a spin-off company from Virginia Techs College of Engineering -- had developed intelligent software to manage power in servers, PCs, and laptops. MiserWare was able significantly to reduce energy consumption while controlling the impact on performance and productivity within a computer system using intelligent software techniques in order to dynamically track and predict system usage and report energy saved. The software, called Granola, allows companies or individuals to measure their carbon footprint in terms of total power usage. This allowed organizations quickly and easily to evaluate their complete energy footprint, from laptops and PCs to entire server centers: to determine the baseline power consumption for the entire information technology infrastructure. While other products save energy by simply turning systems off when not in use, Granola Enterprise saved up to 35%more by also reducing energy waste while systems are in use, with no loss of availability or performance.
