Reported as having facilites in Desden, Germany, in Grand Rapids MI, in Rolling Fork MS and Kentwood, MI., The Mackinac Technology Company developed a transparent window insulation system for retrofit applications. The firm's technology supports achievement of a window insulation level comparable to that of walls. The product is low cost, but also - importantly - is usable as retrofit entirely reduces the need for window replacements. The product is not a film or a window itself, but rather a polymer pane that feels like durable plastic and bends to the touch. Applied to the interior of a window, the Mackinac product can be custom fit to any frame, with multi-pane units that can increase the insulation value. Mackinacâs low emissivity (low-e) polymer film technology uses amorphous diamond-like carbon materials, reflects infrared heat energy and is highly transparent to visible light. The product is tough, durable and can be produced at much lower costs than conventional low-e technologies.
