In June 2008, LipoSonix Inc was acquired by Medicis Pharmaceutical a speciality pharmaceutical company organzied around treatment of dermatological, aesthetic and podiatric conditions. Formerly known as Ultrex Corporation, LipoSonix had been founded originally by the Innovation Factory, an Atlanta GA venture. The firm was organized around developing high-intensity ultrasound technology for noninvasive cosmetic therapy as an alternative to liposuction: product development efforts had been targeted at the aesthetic body contouring market.
