Formerly known as Mobius Power Inc. and anchored in a patent acquired from chemical giant Dupont, Leyden Energy had been in the business of advanced lithium-ion batteries for the consumer electronics, energy storage and electric vehicle markets. The company's patented and proprietary cell technology addressed the shortcomings of previous generations of lithium-ion products by offering improved energy density, superior product life and optimal safety, even in high temperature environments. In mid 2014, the then seven-year-old lithium ion battery startup was reported as in the process of selling off mre than twenty patents and miscaellaneous equipment to battery company A123 Systems which had been bought by Chinese giant Wanxiang in 2012. It was indicated that some of Leydens employees went with the deal with the plan being to use the technology in electric cars. Leyden Energy, Inc products had included Li-ion pouch batteries, cylindrical cells, and Li-ion battery modules used in mobiles, laptops, tablets, E-bikes/light electric vehicals, and power backup systems worldwide.
