Kepley BioSystems (KBI) is a life sciences start-up operating out of Gateway University Research Park (GURP) in collaboration with the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (JSNN), comprised of a partnership between the North Carolina Agriculture and Technical State University (NCA&T) and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). Tackling disruptive innovations to achieve global solutions, the firm was initially founded with the objective of developing a novel method for crustacean fishing that would be easier to use, to store, and more afforable than traditional bait methods, while also reducing the environmental impact on oceans. The firm's lead product is Oraganobait -- a synthetic bait product used to catch crab and lobster without the need of expensive traditional bait fish that need to be removed from the ocean ecosystem.
