Public Profile

Specializing in the design, analysis, development, testing, manufacture, and certification of filament wound high pressure composite vessels: composite high pressure vessels and composite structural application for diverse applications, Hypercomp Engineering Inc (IHEI) works with NASA, US Navy and Air Force developing cutting edge break-through technologies for stronger, lighter and safer pressure vessels. This expertise plays a key role in developing alternative fuel capabilities for the automotive industry based on Hydrogen fuel cells. Further commercial applications for HEI's skills are in the aerospace, oil, medical and breathing apparatus industries including storage of Air, Oxygen, Hydrogen and other gases at working pressures up to 10,000 psi or 70 MPa., often demanding significant cycle life requirements. The design, development and manufacture of Type 2, Type 3 and Type 4 high pressure composite cylinders, (both "thin" and "thick" walled) is the heart of HEI's business. In addition, HEI is well versed in the use of most commercially available composite fibers and resins, and has the knowledge as to when "wet winding" or "towpreg" should be the material form of choice. HEI is very active in the development of composite cylinders which have superior damage tolerance, thus reducing or eliminating the fragmentation mode of failure, common during most bursts. This helps eliminate collateral damage to delicate surrounding equipment, or other adjacent cylinders, should a foreign object such as a bullet (ballistic damage) or meteorite strike the pressurized vessel. HEI is also involved with development of high pressure storage tanks subject to a cryogenic environment, applicable to a number of the industries listed aboveThe firm offers to range of technical capabilities in the design, analysis, prototype, test, certification and production, of composite high pressure cylinders
