Heartland Plant Innovations is a public-private collaboration between Kansas Wheat, Kansas State University, the University of Kansas, and a number of private investors. The firm is developing advanced technologies for gene discovery, trait validation and crop improvement in order to deliver new products and production platforms. With initial funding through the Life Science Center of Innovation Program at the Kansas Bioscience Authority, HPI research effort focuses on emerging commercial opportunities for wheat and sorghum areas in which Kansas has world-renowned leadership and expertise. Focused on plant breeding and genetics, HPI applying advanced technologies for gene discovery, trait validation and crop improvement to deliver new products and production platforms that target unique, high-value market opportunities.
