Designed and developed by a critical care physician - and President of Healthy Design Ltd., -- the firm has developed Exersides as an alternative to traditional patient restraints to reduce ICU complications while also treating patients with dignity and compassion. The facility is based on the concept of Refraint -- the least restraint necessary for the health and safety of both the patient and staff. The patent-pending design of Exersides allows staff easily ato ccess and visualize IVs and A-lines, and to check vitals, glucose, capillary refill and pulse oximetry. The system can be adjusted to the least amount of restraint necessary, including an intermediate exercise setting, all while keeping patients and staff safe. Exersides does not interfere with ET tubes, PICCs, feeding tubes, blood pressure cuffs or patient turning. In situation of edema, the system loosens to protect circulation and localized hand swelling and, importantly, does not require constant supervision. Exersides, patients can move and hold hands allowing families enjoy much needed interaction and feel more empowered by participating in patient recovery through in-bed mobility involvement. Most of all, by fostering effective and humane care, Exersides can help minimize agitation, sedation, immobility and delirium all while saving money and improving satisfaction scores.
