GTA Technologies, Inc. is a specialty chemicals company which develops, manufactures and markets unique high performance components for applications in the transportation field. GTAT is currently focusing on sales to existing brands in the post market automotive business. Viscon is GTATâs trademark for its proprietary combustion technology. Viscon is an important step forward in combustion technology. A small addition of a hydrocarbon polymer improves combustion efficiency in both gasoline and diesel engines. In gasoline engines mechanical efficiency is improved, fuel consumption is reduced, gasolineâs octane value is increased and emissions of CO, HC and NOx are reduced. In diesel engines mechanical efficiency is improved, combustion gas temperatures are reduced, fuel consumption is reduced and emissions of particulate matter and NOx are reduced. The Viscon technology originated in a research program to reduce the explosion hazard created by misted aviation fuel in a crash or when a projectile penetrates a fuel tank. Researchers discovered that a small addition of a high molecular weight polymer to jet fuel greatly reduced the rate of energy release from the ignition of misted fuel. At the same time they saw that addition of the polymer to the jet fuel eliminated the dense black cloud of smoke associated with misted fuel ignition. It was the latter discovery that led to investigation of how this phenomenon could be used to improve combustion in internal combustion engines. Follow on investigation disclosed that the addition of a high molecular weight polymer to fuel modified the physical properties of a sprayed fuel in a number of ways which contribute to improved combustion in an engine. Super-fine, vapor-like, droplets are eliminated, droplet size and distribution across a spray cone are more uniform, mean volume diameter of the droplets is reduced and fractional distillation of sprayed fuel is inhibited. The scientific phenomenon at work is elongational viscosity, greatly increased viscosity when a liquid is put under stress as when fuel sprayed from an injector. The change in viscosity is instantaneous and continues until the polymer molecules relax. Over the last two decades great strides have been made by engineers to create more efficient engines. However, fuel research has not kept pace. GTAT believes that its Viscon technology will right this balance and contribute to further reduction in emissions from internal combustion engines. Aside from Viscon, GTAT has a number of related technologies these include: oil additives, octane boosters, complete fuel system cleaners, fuel injector cleaners, transmission fluids, industrial lubricants, waxes and paint sealant
