The firm takes a scientific approach to designing tools and all products that are carried by the company have been recommended, tested and evaluated by women farmers, landscapers, gardeners or viticulturists, as well as being both high-quality and ergonomic. Green Herons first product in their line of tools, HERS, is a HERgonomic Shovel-spade hybrid developed with support from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The HERS line of tools reduce the factors of injuries and disabilities including chronic problems such as musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), of which lower back pain is the most common. MSDs are widespread everywhere & are considered near-epidemic in agriculture. Using ergonomic principals, the company has designed the HERS tools specifically for women. Virtually all available tools and equipment have been designed for men, meaning that women have been using less-than-optimum tools and equipment for a long, long time, putting them at increased risk of injury or disability.
