Using artificial intelligence, Gradescope is designed to enable instructors to grade paper-based exams, online homework, and programming projects on one platform. Gradescope has also worked on using AI to provide learners with instant, high-quality feedback on all types of assignments. Originally developed by former Computer Science teaching assistants at UC Berkeley, Gradescope was quickly adopted by te ful range of academci institutions. In October 2018, it was announced that Gradescope had been acquired by Turnitin. That firm had previously introduced originality checking and authorship investigation tools. In an effort also to promote critical thinking, and help students improve their authentic writing, the firms offered other tools designed to prevent plagiarism by actvely engaging the student in the writing process, and providing personalized feedback. It is reported that the effort at Turnitin will be to employ the tools developed at Gradescopes tools to check authenticity with efficient, unbiased, and consistent evaluations for any assignment type, including paper-based problem sets, computer code, and engineering diagrams.
