A Colorado State University based startup,, Gelastomerics is focused on the manufacture of Gelastomers, the first mechanically tunable family of hydratable thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) that offer an easily processible, intrisically lubricious, bio-inert (PFAS-free) low-friction polymer alternative, engineered to provide exceptional mechanical performance and toughness in demanding biomedical environments while remaining drop-in compatible with standard thermal processing, molding, and extrusion technologies. Gelastomers provide the lubricity and friction-free surface character of a traditional hydrogel while exhibiting the modulus and superior elastomeric behavior of a styrenic TPE. Their intrinsic melt-processability provides a unique advantage in that they can be injection molded or melt-extruded into unique geometries, shapes, and structures. Gelastomerics is excited to produce one of the first TPEs that is inherently hydrophilic, lubricious, and fatigue and wear-resistant when hydrated. Look out for more exciting news from Gelastomerics!
