FORE Systems' switches, network modules, network management software products, and other computer networking products are based on high-speed asynchronous transfer mode (ATM). FORE is a subsidiary of UK-based manufacturing giant The General Electric Company (GEC) and is a pioneer in ATM technology -- which carries data, audio, and video at high speeds on a single line. Customers include Unisys, AT&T, and US government agencies. Its equipment helped create special effects in the films Babe and Starship Troopers. UK-based manufacturing giant The General Electric Company (GEC) now ,merged with Marconi Electronic ,acquired FORE Systems in April 1999 for $4.5 billion. Will continue to use the FORE name and act as a subsidiary.
