Fizeau Electro-Optic Systems LLC's wavelength meter technology is a very simple interferometer fabricated as a planar waveguide. Most current wavelength meter technology incorporates relatively complex optical-mechanical subsystems, often with moving parts. In contrast, the waveguide interferometer we have developed is small, optically and mechanically stable, and inexpensive to fabricate in volume. The waveguide interferometer offers the potential of a compact, robust, and economical wavelength meter for applications such as a portable stand-alone instrument, or a plug-in expansion module for a PC (personal computer). It could also be the basis of OEM subsystems for uses such as stabilizing and/or tuning a laser's wavelength (Patent Pending). As an example, a stabilized diode laser with stability of 10^-6 or better could replace stabilized HeNe lasers in the precision machine tool industry
