Fieldline Inc. works in magnetic sensing and imaging using microfabricated quantum sensors. Invisible to the human eye, the magnetic fields permeate the world around us with these fields passing unaffected through most objects - such as water, rocks, walls, and the human body - yet providing valuable information about their origin. The firm's principals are building sensor systems designed to image these fields with higher precision than has previously been attempted. The firm is also implementing sophisticated algorithms to extract meaningful information that could be being used in a variety of applications: passive real-time imaging of brain function; security applications; non-destructive testing of materials and infrastructure; brain-computer interface devices. The HEDscan system developed by FiekdLine is a non-invasive wearable magnetoencephalography (MEG) device based on the firm's optically-pumped magnetometer (OPM) sensor technology. Small quantum sensors are placed directly on the head to non-invasively record and map neural activity with high fidelity. Involving a light wearable HEDscan helmets, the equipment can accommodate people of all ages and head sizes. The HEDscan device can be placed in any room of any medical facility without the need for expensive building modifications.
