Public Profile

Founded as collaboration between two Cornell professors Professors and a postdoctoral researcher, Exotanium Exotanium, Inc. is a cloud resource optimization and management platform using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to help enterprises reduce spending in the cloud by up to 90%, while enhancing both operational security and performance.. Originally conceived as the subject of a doctoral thesis, the concept progressed to notion that the developed capability could have significant commercial potential in the cloud computing market. Already massive in scale, and expanding rapidly to meet demand and need, current capabilites are perhaps to exceed half a trillion dollars. Judged likely to appeal to a wide range of customers, from large corporations to small businesse, all sources are interested in improving the performance and security of their cloud computing operations. Use of the term “Exo” impliying a strong outer shell, speaks to the technology’s protective capabilities. Uses the analogy of a library to explain what is being developed, Exotanium is structured to convert the cloud operating system into something like a plug-in library for various applications. This approach could allow customers to increase performance by removing the wall between the application and the operating system that characterizes the older, and clunkier, technology for securing cloud operations—so-called “virtual machines.” The library design allows for the customization of cloud operations, since X-Containers can “Exotanium-ify” any application to enable it to be plugged-into the library. Plus, the architecture is portable, since the whole library can be accessed anywhere where theuser has a network connection. This library design concept also serves to separate X-Containers from both the older virtual machine model, and existing container models. Using existing containers, security isolation can be broken. Exotanium reduces that risk or prevents it entirely. Container technologies might increase security but usually with areduction in reduce performance. With Exotanium, reduction in attack surface serves to increase performance. Shen says that Rother helped the company expand their potential market by not only focusing on Computer Science PhDs, but broadening their market to include everyday business people. By joining Rev, they hope to maintain relationships with the organization’s entrepreneurs-in-residence and transition from working in their garages to utilizing Rev as a physical meeting space. “We are scientists and technologists, and not involved in business,” Shen said. “Ken helped us think from the customer’s point of view, which is a very different, but important, mindset.” The firm recently submitted an SBIR application to receive funding for additional research and development and they hope to hire more employees as they start to market their demo product later this year. Having launched within the Cornell Computer Science Department, the company looks forward to a long future here in Ithaca. “Cornell is key because that’s where we were able to do the innovative research, the high stakes research that may or may not have succeeded.” Weatherspoon said. “Cornell also helped us prepare for commercialization through programs like I-Corps, which enables us to have a transformative impact on the public.” Recent Posts Stead-Ease Spotlight: Hardware Accelerator Team creates a solution for those who experience peripheral neuropathy in their feet New Rev Member Meads Business Hardware team, Flowin,Works to Create Menstrual Sovereignty Rev Member, EMPEQ, Receives NYSERDA Grant Spotlight: Hardware Accelerator Team provides a more accessible way to pasteurize breast milk at home Categories 76West About Rev Events Hardware Hardware Accelerator How We Built Rev In the News New Inventors News & Announcements Press Resources Rev Member Companies Rev Partners Southern Tier Startup Alliance Uncategorized Why Southern Tier Women in Entrepreneurship
