Espira's objective is to develop rapid and inexpensive microfluidics-based tools for clinical and environmental applications. Espira has developed several technologies for sample preparation, amplification and detection. EDigital Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Digital PCR analyzes each nucleic acid template individually in discrete PCR chambers, using either dilution or volume to limit the template per reaction. The goal is to provide the researcher a digital PCR tool that improves both cost and turnaround time over available technologies. Technology platform consists of a plastic microfluidic disk disposable that passively compartmentalizes a sample into thousands of nanoliter-sized wells, a rapid air thermocycler, and a fluorescent scanner to detect the binary 'on/off' digital PCR signal. Espira (India), Mumbai, India is a subsidiary of the Espira Inc, Salt Lake City, Utah. Espira (India) was founded by Himanshu Sant and Bruce Gale to introduce India-specific diagnostic technologies in India. Espira (India) will cater to the need of customers in India for products and services related to microfabrication, microfluidics, prototyping, assay and instrument development.
