Public Profile

EP Purification is involved in the manufactureof novel systems for the purification of water and air. To that end, EP Purification develops prototypes for a series of ozone generators based on microplasma technology. Offering ozone "throughputs" ranging from 10 grams/hour to more than 1 kg/hour, those reactors will have a footprint at least an order of magnitude smaller than those available with conventional technology. Based on microplasma technology developed at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, EP Purification products offer improved efficiencies, which greatly reduce cost and weight. One of the firm's products includes a line of ozone generators designed for the purification of water for municipal water supplies, commercial laundries, and pools. Tests show the reactor design to be at least as efficient as the best conventional systems available today but at least an order of magnitude lower in size and weight. Microplasma is a unique, proprietary, energy-efficient, miniature plasma reactor technology. The limitations of conventional macro-scale plasmas are inherent to their structure, and widespread application of ozone has been limited to date by the weight, size, and high cost of ownership of existing ozone generators. The size and weight of these microplasma-based reactors will be at least a factor of 10 smaller than those for a conventional (corona discharge) system of equivalent ozone output. Microplasma reactor consists of an array of micro scale channels which convert oxygen to ozone using microdischarges inside the channels.
