Envirofit International LLC is the for-profit arm of Envirofit International - a nonprofit project in part funded by the Shell Foundation that develops technology that reduces pollution and enhances energy efficiency in developing countries, particularly in Asia. Envirofitâs enterprise-based model represents a new, more sustainable approach to tackling the global IAP and energy dependence while yielding health, environmental and economic improvements in emerging markets - relying on market mechanisms to guide product development and drive consumer demand. Half of the worldâs population cooks their daily meals by burning biomass fuel (wood, animal dung or agricultural waste) over open fires or rudimentary, inefficient stoves, releasing high levels of toxic emissions into people's homes. Emissions from these traditional cooking methods kills 1 person every 8 seconds, causing more than 4 million deaths a year.
