The original firm had developed unique materials, a design, and production process that blended together produce a product that is radically simpler than existing technology, resulting in a lower cost unit, which out performs present commercial nickel-metal hydride batteries with respect to power and energy. By the time of recession, in March 2009, Electro Energy Inc had filed a voluntary petition for liquidation under Chapter 7 in the US Bankruptcy Court.
