Public Profile
CoolSpine is a medical device start-up spun out of Yale University. The fiirm's core technology is a catheter-based system that induces moderate hypothermia while maintaining systemic normothermia by cooling the cerebral spinal fluid either in the brain or spinal cord, thereby reducing the temperature of adjacent tissue and organs to levels shown to be neuroprotective. Our spinal cooling product provides neuroprotection against paraplegia during both open and endovascular aneurysm repair. Our cerebral cooling catheter provides neuroprotection from stroke and traumatic brain injury. Both products have been successfully tested in animals. CoolSpine is a recipient of two NSF STTR grants for our intraventricular cooling catheter. We are developing products for both the civilian and military markets.
