Cardiac Motion, LLC is a startup company incubated by a Rural Healthcare Research Institute and in partnership with UC Davis Engineering College and School of Medicine as well as the Tahoe Forest Health System in Truckee, CA. About 14.4 million Americans experience heart arrhythmias; one quarter of these are paroxysmal, necessitating a long-term ambulatory monitoring device for diagnosis. Cardiac Motion, LLC is developing a fully integrated, wearable monitor that can be used to diagnose simple and complex arrhythmias, provide imaging data on cardiac volume and output, and guide therapy for ambulatory left/right and congestive heart failure patients. The current standard in wearable monitoring is the Holter monitor., an EKG based wearable Monitor. Shortcomings include: multiple wires and sticky electrodes, along with attached monitor device; and the inability to measure cardiac volume and output. The Cardiac Motion wearable monitor developed by Cardia Motion uses radar to detect the real muscular movement of the heart rather than the electrical signal. It enables diagnosis of complex arrhythmias as well as measurements of cardiac volume and output.
