BrainSymphonics is working to develop magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for use in the early detection of Alzheimer's disease. The company was spun out of the work of Shi-Jiang Li, the Director for the Center for Imaging Research at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Aside from research on the use of MRI in detecting Alzheimer's, Li also is working on an NIH-funded project involving the use of brain imagining technology to study the affect of cocaine use on the human brain.
