Not long after having founded Box Robotics and more or less coincident wth awarding of an NSF SBIR Phase I, Box Robotics - a Philadelphia-based mobile robotics startup bringing high-definition maps, three-dimensional LiDAR, and deep learning to the warehouse and manufacturing automation space - was acquired by Pittsburgh-based Seegrid Corporation - itself a leader in the self-driving industrial vehicles for materials handling. The acquisition was widely discussed in the industry as accelerating next-generation perception and more human-like, situational awareness technology through vision-guided vehicles (VGVs).
