In December 2020 Raytheon closed its purchase of Blue Canyon announced earlier. in the year with indication how the large firm will integrated the satellite maker into its intelligence and space business. Active in SBIR from soon after its founding in 2008, Blue Canyon designs, manufactures, tests and operates small spacecraft, including airspace components and systems. With the firm's engineers having experience spanning renewable energy, aerospace, and remote sensing electronics and mechanisms, including the design, development, test and operations of more than 20 diverse systems currently in operation and providing years of reliable service, Blue Canyon Technologies (BCT) specialized in small spacecraft design, development, and operations to include satellite classes of small, micro, nano, pico, and cubesats. In July 2020 the firm had been awarded a $14.1 million DARPA contract to produce four satellite buses for the Blackjack program. The contract had options for DARPA to buy up to an addition 20 satellites for $99.4 million - a provision being consummated dueing 2021.
