Public Profile

Black Hills Nanosystems, an 8(A) certified company, has created a family of nanotechnology-based Exploding Foil Initiator (EFI) devices to improve the safety and effectiveness of munitions. The firm's products raise the reliability of munitions through redundancy made possible by miniaturization. The improved reliability also addresses the problem of unexploded munitions. To minimize production cost, products are designed to exclusively use batch manufacturing processes from the semiconductor industry. Also, Black Hills NanosystemsÂ’ room-temperature wafer-scale microsealing process will reduce costs and facilitate the use of EFIs in smaller munitions.
