Biosearch Technologies design and manufacture nucleic acid based products to drive the discovery and application of genomic information. Biosearch originally developed and manufactured automated, solid-phase DNA synthesizers, which were used in the discovery of Polymerase Chain Reactions (PCR). PCR introduced added capabilities for the identification, manipulation and amplification of DNA; itÂ’s now a standard, indispensable research technique that is used for numerous medical and biological applications such as DNA sequencing and genetic fingerprinting. PCR allowed breakthroughs in the detection of genetic mutations, the ability to detect the presence of previously unknown genetic material, as well as the ability to analyze degraded DNA. A prime example of this would be the detection and diagnosis of diseases such as muscular dystrophy and HIV. As scientists grew more familiar with the technique of PCR, they began to expand on the utility of the method. PCR was used to measure the quantity of DNA present in a reaction, generating the term quantitative PCR, or q-PCR. BTI has developed robotic synthesis and purification technology allowing the economic and expeditious preparation of complex fluorescent probes, in large numbers. BTI products include fluorogenic reporters groups and synthesis supports which enable this capability
