Applied Colloids forms nanocomposite materials from waxes and polymers with its unique, patented in-situ technology that enhances melt point, thermal transfer and mechanical properties. The company philosophy is to create new "cutting edge" nanocomposites with novel performance characteristics from traditional polymeric systems. Applied Colloids is also developing methods for improved processing of nanophase products utilizing nanoparticle reactants. Applied Colloids was formed to commercialize its unique in-situ technology for nanocomposite materials. Applications for this technology have been found in cosmetics, binders, and adhesives. The firm's technology differs from other nanocomposite formation methods in that the nanoparticles are formed "in-situ" within the polymer and wax matrix materials, versus other methods where nanoparticles are synthesized prior to incorporation in the matrix and then blended into it by various techniques. The Applied Colloids technology avoids the agglomeration and extra processing that occurs with current nanocomposite techniques, yielding materials with improved properties and performance. This is accomplished by the addition of a custom material which first "dissolves" in the polymers or waxes and creates a secondary, self-forming, dispersed nanophase within the matrix.
