By enabling interdisciplinary collaboration between orthopaedic surgeons and engineering scientists, Apex Biomedical LLC is structured around delivering evidence-based solutions for prevention and treatment of injuries. The APEX strategy for achieving evidence-based solutions relies on research and interdisciplinary collaboration enables the firm to identify persistent challenges in trauma care that require specialized solutions to improve patient care in the near term. By conducting research to clearly define a challengeand enabling close interdisciplinary collaboration between surgeons and engineers to generate practical, clinically relevant products, the firm's has led to the development of four commercial products in the health science space - 16 US patents issued to date - that have been exclusively licensed to US-based market leaders with global distribution networks. The firm's current work focuses on Active Plating of skeletal fractures to promote secondary bone healing, and on developing an improved bicycle helmet technology that significantly reduces the rotational acceleration during impact to prevent traumatic brain injuries.
