In October 2012 Aperio Technologies was acquired by Leica Biosystems. Aperio Technologies supplies automated digital scanning products and services for microscope-based diagnostics. Aperio Technologies' ScanScope(tm) is a high-resolution microscope slide scanner that digitizes an entire slide at diagnostic resolution in minutes, approximately twenty times faster and with greater efficiency than conventional methods. The ScanScope(tm) makes it practical - for the first time - to convert all information available on a microscope slide into a common standard digital image format. The ScanScope provides a dramatically more efficient and objective environment for microscope-based diagnostics in life science and industrial applications. Entire digitized microscope slides, termed ScanSlides(tm), can be analyzed directly on a computer monitor, or remotely over a network, eliminating the need for the conventional optical microscope. Specialized image analysis algorithms can also be applied to ScanSlides to automatically identify cells of interest, classify cell populations, or measure specific cellular attributes.
