Spun out of Columbia Universityâs Computer Science Department and a DARPA funded project in that institution, Allure's primary product - Novo - is described as an Active User Behavioral Analytics software combining machine learning and decoy technology to protect the User's devices from data loss and intrusion both inside and outside the enterprise. Allure Defend, Allureâs flagship product, works by implanting existing documents with beacons that trace their use both inside and outside the organization. Allure Defend automatically generates âdecoyâ documents that are believableâbut contain no sensitive informationâwith the goal being to entice a would-be attacker to access the information, helping to reveal their true motivation and location. Beacon-implanted documents send silent signals back to the document creator or leave forensic markers on the file system to uniquely identify the use of a particular document. This beaconing technology provides unprecedented visibility into how sensitive information flows inside and outside the enterprise. Beacon-implanted documents will play a central role in providing a âground truthâ about user behavior and their intent. Allureâs patented technology has been under development at Columbia University since 2007 under contracts from DARPA, DHS, and the National Science Foundation (NSF) - all the related patent filings by Columbia are licensed exclusively to Allure by
