It is estimated that annually the US, some 3 million+ surgeries are performed in the abdomen and pelvis. Accidental injury to the ureter during these cases is a multi-billion dollar problem. Available techniques to prevent ureter injury are either expensive, do not actually prevent injury or are time consuming and inherently risk injury to the ureters. Allotrope has developed a hand-held, single use, battery powered device enabling the surgeon quickly, easily and safely to identify the ureter during minimally invasive surgery using electrical stimulation.
