Advanced Smart Systems and Evaluation Technologies (ASSET), LLC is a University of South Carolina spin-off company structured around R&D of intelligent infrastructure technologies primarily for physical security and predictive healthcare applications. The firm's current focus is on floor vibration analytics that detects and locates a person anywhere in or on a structure (e.g. building, sidewalk). detection. Anchored in six years of research involving an interdisplinary team of engineers and medical doctors - funded by the Alzheimer's Association, NSF, the University of South Carolina, and the VA - into the automatic detection of human falls through user-independent, smart homes. This led to interest in developing a technique to enable a building a way to "feel" when someone fell. In collaboration with Intel's Rapid Prototyping Team, a new sensor platform was developed and the ASSETs team set out to record real world falls to validate the technique. Present efforts buld on that experience.
