Endoscope?caused infections are a serious public health hazard. They are inderstood to occur primarily because the internal channels of an endoscope are long and narrow making it difficult to remove contaminants (eg biofilm) because these harbor and protect bacteria .. actually helping bacteria survive traditional high?level disinfection, Advanced Biofilm's SBIR project demonstrated that flow of a safe nanofiber?based material in an aqueous composition through an endoscope channel can scrub biofilm and other contaminants to such an extent that the channel is indistinguishable from a channel that has never been exposed to bacteria or biofilm. An unprecedented accomplishment in the endoscope reprocessing industry. Phase II was structured such as to move this technology toward commercialization with he firm developing and validating a delivery pump system. The effort was also to scalie-up the nanofiber?based cleaning composition and manufacturing processes, The firm has proceeded to testing the new technology in repeated simulated?use cycles with the most challenging three types of actual endoscopes while also testing patient?used endoscopes through multiple consecutive uses in a healthcar
