Since the firm was established in 1984 - and first became SBIR involved - and still program active more recently, Adiabatics' primary areas of interest have been in advanced engine concepts with a focus on development of the uncooled diesel engine from which the name Adiabatics originated. An adiabatic engine retains the heat of combustion and puts it to work for other engine functions, allowing it to run more efficiently. In this context , principals of the firm have developed various types of thermal barrier coatings (AdiaBlock) and friction and wear coatings (AdiaWear) designed to help protect engine components and to decrease amount of heat loss within an engine. In addition to automotive coatings, the firm has also invested in advanced composite material research and development. In 2005, the firm's first elastomeric coating product was sold - a polymer for components of water pumps experiencing severe erosion, wear, and cavitation - with extraordinary results. Adiabatic's elastomeric coatings perform better than thermal-sprayed tungsten carbide and other hard-wear coatings. Since the first sale of selling the firm's elastomeric coating, a whole line of products - designated Adiacoat - have been developed. Adiabatics now offers a complete line of coatings used in many industries and applications worldwide. As an example, Adiabatics furnishes protective coatings for water pumps - providing effective protection from corrosion, erosion and cavitation. As part of the service, the firm can coat the client's parts in Indiana and/or can bring the service to the door pf the client.
