Adaptive Surface Technologies, Inc. (AST, formerly dba SLIPS Technologies, Inc.) is a Cambridge, MA-based industrial technology company developing materials and coatings designed to repel fluids, contaminants, and biological fouling. A leader in the concept of repellent surfaces, Adaptive Surface Technologies, Inc. serves a wide range of industrial, marine, and packaging applications. Involved in SBIR via the unusual (open Forum) approach taken by Air Force AFWERX in 2020, through the firm's ongoing collaboration, AST has been able to demonstrate how thefirm's novel anti-ice coating can resist frost deposition in heat exchange applications. The firm's coating frosts six minutes later than the control, after cooling an additional 3.5 °C. Additionally, thefirm's product showed a drastic change in deposition behavior, condensing and then freezing as individual droplets instead of a solid ice sheet.
