In September 2017, L3 Technologies - far and away the largest acquirer of SBIR involved firms - now 43 - acquired Adaptive Methods, Inc. The small firm had been involved in developing advanced sensor processing and computing architecture products for surveillance, security, and military combat systems. It offers DISe (Deployable Interchangeable Sensor), a portable, hand-deployable environmental sensor that provides remote situational awareness solutions, and video and environmental monitoring capabilities in hazardous environments; SHARCSURTASS Headline and Roll Control, a net mitigation and array stabilization device that survives the harsh marine environment for multiple underwater deployments; Signal and Data Recorder, a scalable network-based recording solution that records and playbacks high bandwidth acoustic sensor level data to/from low cost commercial media; and Net Pen, a net avoidance or net penetration system for mission completion and vehicle recovery. The company also offers sensor systems in the areas of signal processing, and sensor acquisition and recording; and mission systems comprising fusion and display, and modeling and simulation. It offers solutions for marine and environmental monitoring, oceanographic research, ocean salvage, search and recovery operations, bathymetric surveyors, offshore oil and gas exploration, and infrastructure inspectors' applications worldwide. The company was formerly known as Applied Hydro-Acoustics Research, Inc. and changed its name to Adaptive Methods, Inc. in 2005. Adaptive Methods, Inc. was founded in 1973 and is based in Centerville, Virginia.
