This project will focus on research to develop both the community processes and the product/service mix for an Internet service provider to make introductory implementation of Internet access commercially viable in rural and frontier communities. Development would include template and software resources that would provide for local content (remotely hosted) and interactivity, as well as affordable local access. The product of the research will be a preliminary business/technology model which facilitates Internet access in rural and frontier communities by providing both a means and a motivation for aggregating uses on a community level.Applications:The result of this research will be a more effective diffusion of new technology access in rural and frontier areas which will not require external supports such as grants or cross-subsidy funding. It will model a market emergence for these communities which may result in multiple commercial applications targeted toward them.
