Applications: The proposed nozzle tip monitor reduces environmental hazards and lowers expenses for farmers by reducing chemical waste (a projected savings of several million dollars annually). This study will demonstrate the feasibility and performance of fiber optic nozzle tip monitoring in lab tests. Sensor characteristics will be determined and a technological base will be established for further research and subsequent commercialization. At this time, nozzle tip monitors are not commercially available. A product based on the results of the proposed research would improve the efficiency of chemical application and fit into the product portfolio of Phoenix International Corporation.
