Anticipated Results:It is anticipated that the volumeter will achieve an accuracy of + 1 % and measurement time of less than one minute (possibly only a few seconds) and feasibility proven. The experience gained will also be used to estimate the feasibility of applying the volumeter to ruminant animals and poultry. Development programs for production prototypes designed for use in feed-lots, slaughter houses, and retail markets will be outlined. Some commercial applications are: To guide feed, management and breeding programs in the feed lots; carcass grading in the slaughter house; and the labeling of product fat content in the retail market.
