The primary goal of the SBIR will be achieved by creating a SOF operator imaging package using two I2 systems straddling a head mounted thermal imager. Using analog techniques the goal is to fuse these three elements to create a virtual I2 image fused with a thermal image through a common synthetic aperture. An intermediate goal is the design and prototype of a camera based on a 16mm image intensifier coupled fiber optic taper to a high resolution CCD imager in a form factor specifically developed for head and weapon mounted applications. The final objective is the development of a COTS lightweight single sensor package incorporating the low power electronics and optical elements into one helmet mounted module requiring no field calibration.
