The adaptive single user receiver invented at AF LAB has been shown to suppress multiuser and certain forms of narrow-band interference in adecision directed mode during the entire transmission, without requiring knowledge of other users spreading codes, timing or phase information in direct-sequence proposal, we investigate the use of our single user receiver for secure communications as required in many commercial, military and law enforcement applications. Dual-use communicatio requires us to investigate the performance of our direct sequence spread spectrum receiver in presence of both unintentional and smart jamming. Dual use also forces us to investigate the performance of our adaptive receiver in systems using both a small processing gain, say around 60, and large processing gain, say around 600 and multiple data bits per spreading code period. The results will indicate if a military user employing a large processing gain can also occupy the frequency spectrum occupied by several commercial DS-CDMA systems each assigning a small processing gain to each of it users and if rejection of near-far commercial users is possible.
