There are two primary technological challenges for imaging science. The first is algorithmic and the second is usability. Phase I of the Prophet Image Visualization Object T-ooTkit (PIVOT) is positioned to show the feasibility of both of these challenges. PIVOT will produce powerful software extensions to the capabilities of PROPHET II to provide effective easy-to-use tools for working with multi-dimensional biomedical imaging data. The extensions provide advanced facilities for display, processing, manipulation, and quantitative measurement of both 2-D and 3-D biomedical image data. The architectural approach being envisioned within PIVOT results in an imaging visualization toolbox which is easily integrated into the PROPHET II system.Awardee's statement of the potential commercial applications of the research:PIVOT will be ''plug-and-play compatible with PROPHET II so that hundreds of sites using this popular software package for biological studies will be interested in acquiring PIVOT. In addition, PIVOT can be readily modified to function as a stand-alone product for imaging applications in medicine, geology, meterology and industrial inspection.National Center for Research Resources (NCRR)
